Metamorfosis (III)

  1. While I agree with Sartre, that, " Hell is other people ", I am not sure that I agree Jung, that they are to feared. Of the few things I fear in the world, humans are the least worrisome. I am a social animal, and I am always able to hold my own with others. Holding Sartre's point of view is what helps me deal with others. If I believed as Jung does, I might never be able to interact with others at all. Fear is a very personal feeling. I taught public speaking, and found that public speaking comes higher on the list of fears than death. At my age, after a great life, I only fear only the loss of cognitive ability. But as Franklin Roosevelt said, " The only thing we have to fear is fear itself " That is enough to worry about. Hugs dear friend

  2. I think that the idea that Jung tried to show us is that we have to fear is the possibility of harm made by the human. 'Homo homini lupus', said Plauto (though it was Thomas Hobbes who popularized the quote. Humans are able to do the best and the worst in life. That´s what I fear. A big hug, my friend.

  3. I understand the point, but there seems to be a level of paranoia in it. Certainly, we must all have a level of cynicism in us when we deal with others, but we also need the confidence to understand that we are as strong and perhaps as dangerous to others as they are to us. To understand the possibility that others may harm us, is not the same as always living in fear of that possibility. Forewarned, is forearmed. After all, as you say, there is also the possibility of the best coming from others. Fear of others eliminates the possibility of both harm and benefit.
